A customer replies to your order confirmation SMS asking where their invoice went, and the answer is sitting in an email that never reached them because nobody set up a trigger for it. Mailchimp Transactional runs the transactional email side of the business, sending receipts, password resets and account notices through actions like Send Email and Send Template, while its New Catch Hook trigger picks up webhook events from Mandrill as they happen.

Through Zapier, those events can prompt Mobile Message to text a customer or a teammate, and a reply or delivery update on the SMS side can prompt Mailchimp Transactional to send the matching email. When a webhook event is caught, a quick text can go out to whoever needs to act on it, closing the gap between an email system and a phone that a customer actually has open.

None of this rewrites either tool. Mailchimp Transactional keeps sending the templated emails it always has, and Mobile Message keeps sending texts, with Zapier passing the trigger from one to the action on the other. For a business already relying on Mandrill for its email backbone, adding a text message at the right moment fills the one gap email alone cannot cover, a message someone will actually see straight away.
