An ambassador in your referral programme sends a text with their short code after a friend signs up, expecting the referral to be tracked and the commission to land in their account without having to log into a portal or fill out a form. Behind the scenes, someone still has to take that message and turn it into a recorded event before Ambassador can work out what's owed.

Mobile Message can pass that text straight through as soon as Inbound SMS Received fires, and Zapier can turn it into a Record Event to Create Commission action in Ambassador, so the referral gets logged the moment it's texted in rather than after someone reads their messages later. The same trigger can also feed Create Contact when a new person texts in for the first time, or Update Contact when someone already in the programme replies with a new email or phone number.

None of this changes how ambassadors behave, they still just send a text. What changes is that Ambassador stops waiting on manual entry and starts building contacts, updates and commission events from replies as they arrive, which matters most for programmes that run mainly through SMS.
