About the Bitly integration

A customer completes checkout and the confirmation text is ready to send, except the tracking link runs to more characters than the message itself, eating into the space meant for the actual details. Bitly turns that long web address into a short one before it ever reaches the phone, so the text stays clean, shorter to read and still easy to click.

Paired with Mobile Message through Zapier, a Zap can create a Bitlink the moment an order is paid in Shopify, an invoice falls overdue in Xero, or someone registers for an event in Eventbrite, then text the shortened link straight to the customer. Bitly's job in these Zaps is to shorten the link partway through, while Mobile Message handles the actual sending, so a business running SMS reminders, payment links or ticket confirmations gets a tidier address in every message without changing anything else about how the text is written or who receives it.

Bitly + SMS: common questions

Can I shorten a link before it goes out in a text message from Mobile Message?

Yes. Bitly can create a shortened Bitlink partway through a Zap, and Mobile Message sends that shortened link inside the text itself. This keeps tracking links, payment links or event pages from taking up most of a text message's character count.

Does Bitly work with texts triggered from Shopify, Xero or Eventbrite?

Yes, as long as one of those apps starts the Zap. A paid order in Shopify, an overdue invoice in Xero or a new registration in Eventbrite can each pass a link to Bitly to shorten, and Mobile Message sends the resulting text to the customer.

How do I set up shortened links inside my Mobile Message texts?

You need a Bitly account and a Mobile Message account, connected through Zapier without any code. Build a Zap that starts with the trigger you want, add Bitly's Create Bitlink step in the middle, then finish with a Mobile Message send SMS step.
